Carpets - Time for reflection

Where are the places in a city where you can spend time to reflect, rest, be in recluse?

Åsa Maria Bengtsson invited artists to investigate possibilities and places. Together with Lena Mattsson, Lennart Alves, Peter Johansson/Barbro Westling at Karlskrona Konsthall you can get ideas especially from Malmö, but it’s possible to transfer thoughts to  other cities.

Åsa Maria Bengtsson showed me her public project with flying digital carpets, it is not in the exhibition now but on her website for instance. Last year she did a public work for Sundstorget, Helsingborg. Magic in the air.

The carpet as a metaphor for home, the carpet as used by nomads, the carpet as a symbol.

Came to think of the oriental carpet on the photograph by Pekka Turunen, held by an immigrant couple standing in a lot of snow, somewhere in Finland maybe. Another amazing carpet is the both minimalistic and maximalistic rya rug made by thousands and thousands of people, cut out of glossy magazines and glued standing. Katarzyna Jozefowicz spent several  years making it. Monumental impression. Sense of time and transitoriness. The  interactive installation Carpet Invaders by Janek Simon is a digital carpet and a mix between reality and virtual reality, computer-games, wars, new patterns and dependent on you as a visitor.
